Will AI take over that too?

We hear everywhere that software developers no longer ‘code’ – instead, AI is taking over this task, and in future the human contribution to these services will consist solely of testing and verifying the resulting program code. For us, as developers of software solutions in test automation, this is also an issue that makes us wonder whether our work might become redundant – until the moment we find ourselves deep inside the control cabinet of an existing system, discovering components for which no documentation or source code exists, controllers that have not been manufactured for years, or cables that bear no labelling and seem to lead nowhere. At that moment, we are fairly certain that our field of work will remain with us for a long time to come, for it will be some time yet before AI can also crawl into the control cabinet, dig out old paper documentation and, with comparable experience, keep heterogeneous systems running or even modernise them.

And if similar ‘historic’ systems are hidden away in your control cabinets, the functionality of which needs to be secured for the future, then you can of course ask AI for advice, but please feel free to contact us if the answer proves unsatisfactory.
