Let’s put a name to it! – Setting Profinet station names and IP addresses in LabVIEW
Unlike other real-time Ethernet buses, Profinet requires station names and IP addresses for slaves (IO-devices in Profinet nomenclature) in order to communicate with them.
However, since these parameters are assigned on an application-specific basis, they are usually not available for Profinet devices that have just been manufactured and are now undergoing end-of-line testing. However, since these parameters are assigned on an application-specific basis, they are usually not set on Profinet devices that have just been manufactured and are now undergoing end-of-line testing.
In order to be able to communicate with these devices on the test bench, the station name and IP address must be set – preferably automatically to save time and avoid errors. This is exactly what our LabVIEW library for setting Profinet parameters does. And, of course, it can also scan the bus for existing participants and reset the devices to factory settings – without station names and IP addresses – after the test is complete.
