In fact, we often combine LabVIEW and EtherCAT (not least because NI itself uses EtherCAT on its cRIO platform) and sometimes also LabVIEW and SERCOS III.

Sometimes we also have to switch between buses, as is the case with our multi-bus-capable test benches, where the bus can change from one DUT to the next. This is no problem for Hilscher’s cifX board: just change the firmware and configuration, and you’re done. This is usually done using Hilscher’s Sycon.net and Communication Studio tools. But that’s not practical on the test bench. For one thing, it takes far too long, and for another, the risk of errors is too great. That’s why, in addition to our driver interface in LabVIEW, we have also developed an interface for automatic configuration. It transfers the configuration within seconds, communication is restarted and the bus is up and running.
