From Sensing to Action: Scalable Measurement and Control
This was the title of the presentation that Manuel Hofmann from NI and I gave at NI Days 2026 in Munich. Manuel described the basic requirements for modern test solutions and showed how these can be met with the comprehensive NI ecosystem of hardware and software. Following this, I used the example of our end-of-line test benches at Emerson Aventics to illustrate how we at müller+krahmer specifically ensure the scalability of our systems: through a consistently fieldbus-based design.
This offers many advantages: fieldbus-based measurement and control systems with modular signal terminals can be easily expanded at the end of the bus – always by exactly as many terminals as are currently needed. Thanks to virtually unlimited modularity, the individual terminals can be routed directly to the signal sources, which reduces interference. The integration of both signal connector modules and complete devices is particularly easy with real-time Ethernet-based buses and does not require any complex electrical installation. And even the integration of new buses only requires the installation of a corresponding interface component.
This approach enables us to continuously adapt test systems to new requirements and now test hundreds of different devices in numerous designs and with a wide range of analog, digital, and bus interfaces on a single test bench.
